Despite the time of year it is still a busy one for Ally & The Team, they are putting in the work to ensure the course remains in excellent condition come the start of the season. This week aeration work took place on the greens and this will continue all the way through the year. The team take a real pride in the quality of the putting surfaces and aprons and that is part of the reason for our temporary green positioning and also for our frost policy during the winter months. As much as we would love to be playing on a full course, tees, greens for 12 months of the year it simply isn't possible in our climate so we have to make adaptions.
The 2nd and 5th Red tees will be laid during the next milder spell of weather along with work on green side bunkers and the 5th and the FW bunker on 10. 2 bunkers are being filled in, the back left on 11 due to it continually being flooded and becoming compacted and similarly wit the FW bunker on 9 which has similar issues as well as there constantly being stones come through the surface on that one!
On top of that almost every blade of rough has been cut using the "Turf Tidy" machine as part of the ongoing program to achieve a more long and whispy "links like" style of rough.
Throughout March the bunkers will all be worked on in some capacity to ensure they are back in play for the start of the season.
From my point of view I have been working hard on the marketing side of things to help boost membership numbers and also to increase our visitor numbers for 2025 particularly in off peak areas (Monday - Friday 1pm - 4pm).
And for the 3rd year in a row I will be attending the Scottish Golf Tourism week, which takes place in Aberdeen this year, to represent and sell Arbroath Golf Links to Tour Operators from all across the world. This has paid off over the last couple of seasons with a big increase in the number of overseas visitors we now enjoy.
Lets hope for a kind couple of months from a weather point of view so that we can kick off the 2025 golf season in the right way...
