CONSEQUENCE!

I thought I would start this week's newsletter a little differently! I have now played two days in a row, I even practiced for 30 minutes before my first round! I hear a lot in the shop "I hit it great on the range" and then can't take that swing to the course. I pretty much always reply the same thing - CONSEQUENCE!

On the range if you hit a bad shot, you just whack another ball, if this happens on the course you have to play it from it's resting spot or sometimes go to the bag for a reload!

For me there are two ways to work on this, firstly is making your practice more "game like", setting targets, changing targets, trying to alter ball flight. There are lots of ways to make it feel more like you are on the course

Secondly and for me more important is committing to the shot. Stand up, pick your target, try to envisage how the shot will be played and then COMMIT.

Innes Update!

Concentration!

I decided to bring down Innes for a whack at the driving range last week, he's now 18 months so I thought he had waited long enough! He wasn't too keen on hitting them all from the same spot or same direction but he really enjoyed himself and it was great to see.

Tired Boy!

As he began to tire after hitting about 60 shots he decided it was time to hit them whilst sitting down.

Next step the golf course.

Get Back To Golf Tour

With all the disruption there has been in 2020 I am delighted to announce we are going to be one of eight courses across Scotland hosting the "Get Back To Golf Tour" organised by Alan Tait, each of the eight events take place over a week where amateurs below a four handicap and all Professioanl golfers can take part and relay their score back to Alan. Golf on Tour

The UK Swing begins

The British Masters finally gave European Tour fans something to cheer. Whilst the Tour had technically resumed with a couple of weakened fields in Austria, this was the first ‘proper’ European Tour event since lockdown began all those months ago. Renato Paratore was the eventual winner, with the young Italian going 62 holes before his first bogey on the 9th in the final round.

Paratore’s incredible golf came at a soggy Close House course, hosted by Lee Westwood, in the first of a six-tournament “UK Swing”. This week, players high enough in the World Rankings can choose between the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational or the English Open. Next week, it will be a choice between staying put for the English Championship or heading to San Francisco for the first Major of 2020; the PGA Championship. Things are about to get interesting!

Time to update your wedges?

That moment when you pitch the ball close to the pin and stop it on a dime for a tap-in putt is like no other. It dramatically reduces your score whilst looking awesome. As with all shots, it requires both technique and confidence, not to mention wedges with sharp grooves.

A recent survey highlighted that a third of golfers carry wedges that are over five years old. We appreciate that everyone has a club or two in their bag that they love but grooves will gradually deteriorate over time.

This European Tour challenge is pretty simple: pick your favourite club and play the entire hole with it. Close House was the venue ahead of last week's British Masters, but how did the players get on? There were certainly a few surprises!
