I'm Back

Well, it is great to be back to sunny Scotland after a fantastic week away in Lanzarote with my wife Moira and little boy Innes. There’s nothing like coming home to a 20 odd degree temperature drop!

It was a great week away and aside from the lovely weather it was great to spend time as family without having to answer emails or even think about work so a big thank you to my Assistant Connor for running the ship although I hear he had a pretty easy week due to the wet weather I left behind!

Volunteers Required

I have taken a loan of a SkyTrak Launch Monitor for the next few weeks as I continue to look into the idea of creating an Indoor Studio. This particular Unit is useable both indoors and out so would be ideal.

I am looking for volunteers to come along with either myself or Connor for either a Custom Fit, Gapping Session, or Skills Challenge and get some feedback on the product. If you are keen either drop me an email or pop into the pro shop to discuss.

Christmas Deals

I have managed to make it to mid-November before I have mentioned the “C” word but it’s now time to start thinking about Christmas! Annual Gents Prizegiving

This past Saturday was the Annual Gents Prizegiving and it was an excellent evening. To start the night off we invited along the Juniors who represented the Club in the Golf Sixes Fixtures and they were all presented with a Medal. We also had 2 Juniors attend the evening who won prizes in away fixtures throughout the season, so well done to Ben Teviotdale and Freddie Ruxton.

It was great to see the prizewinners up collecting their trophies and a speech or two from some of the winners. The evening was capped off by a fantastic after-dinner speech from Alan Tait, who is a long-standing PGA Professional, has played on Tour and has done commentary for the BBC at various events. I thought he was fantastic and was a great way to round off the evening.

Finally this week despite the best efforts someone has sadly managed to lose this valuable piece of kit.

You don’t get to a single-figure handicap without having a strong iron game, but the journey shouldn't end there. For us, there are two key factors that, when combined properly, will help take your iron play to the next level.

1) Get custom-fitted

If you're serious about shooting in the 70s each and every round, then getting custom-fitted for your next set of irons is key.

Asking for forgiveness

Improving your iron play is key if you want to lower your handicap this winter, but you need to give yourself the best chance of doing so at the same time. That's why these stats made us sit up and pay attention...

We should all be looking to make this game as easy as possible for ourselves, and that’s why we recommend joining the 55% of golfers who don't use a 3 or 4-iron by swapping yours out for a more forgiving and easy-to-use hybrid.

The cold facts

Colder temperatures have a consequence on every aspect of our game, from the clothes we wear to how far the ball travels through the air. We all certainly dress to combat the chill on a winter’s day, but how many of you are switching your golf ball for one that offers you more distance when you need it the most?

The science:

Cold air is denser than warm air, which creates additional drag on the ball resulting in it going a shorter distance. Also, chillier temperatures mean colder clubs, which in turn means the transfer of energy from the clubface to the ball is not as efficient as when it is warm. Lesson over!
