Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter, where we keep you up to date on everything you need to know going on here at Arbroath Golf Links.

This week we have some changes coming to the range and how it can be used, go to the 12th hole in our course management section, give you some insight on my recent fittings and lessons, remind you of the upcoming Pro's Day on Saturday and give you my picks for The Open, all this and much, much more!

Club news

Important Announcement - The Range

Sadly I don’t start this week with positive news regarding the range. We are down to under 700 balls after having a little over 2000 at the end of June. No definite decisions have been made just yet but for the time being the range will only be open during shop hours.

Currently, these are - Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8am-6.30pm. Wednesday & Friday 7.30am-6.30pm. Saturday & Sunday 6.20am-5.30pm. I will keep you up to date with any further developments.

Course news

Course Management - 12th Hole

We are now onto the 12th, a great short par 4 at 331 yards from the Medal tee!

The tee shot on 12 is fairly straightforward the key is to play short of the bunkers and ideally be down the left side to fully open up the green. In total there are 6 bunkers guarding this hole and they are all pretty deep!

Any 2nd shot coming in from the right-hand side is almost impossible to stop due to the right to left slope on the green, so as previously mentioned the key is to come in from the left-hand side even if this means coming in from the 13th fairway!

Another particularly undulating green awaits and my tip for this green would be to always add a little extra break than you first think!

A View From Above

This past week a keen photographer was out with a drone taking a few snaps of the course.

The technology is new to him so he is keen to practise and the golf course is an excellent place to get some fantastic still shots and also videos of each hole.

I have attached a few shots and hopefully, in the coming weeks, I will have more to show you!

Pro's news

Pro's Day - FINAL REMINDER

This Saturday is my first Pro’s Day here at Arbroath, Connor and I are both looking forward to the day and hopefully we get a good turnout and some good weather. As mentioned last week the format is an individual Stableford, and the competition is open to all Arbroath Artisan Golf Club members. The results will be posted as early as possible on Sunday.

Get Started!

I have been out coaching and fitting fairly regularly over the past week and it is great to see a variety of age groups, gender and abilities all striving to get better. The issues are different for each person but the key for me is to give someone firstly an understanding of what they are doing wrong and secondly the easiest way to correct this.

The changes are always far easier than I think the vast majority of people expect. I cover every aspect of the game from putting to full swing and also can fit from every club in the bag from wedges to driver using some great technology at my disposal.

The Open

Finally, it’s Open Week, I think we are all looking forward to The Open, it should be a great contest with so many players playing well it could be literally anyone from the field who wins. My picks are Stenson, Thomas and Lowry! Let me now your predictions!
