Freshen up your wardrobe

It has been a great start to the week with some fantastic weather, the sprinkler system has been on and the course is looking great.

We have had quite a few visiting parties out already this week and the feedback has been excellent.

The shop is currently as full as can be and hopefully with the better weather and warmer temperatures you will be interested in the wide range on shirts we have!

If it still isn’t warm enough for solely a shirt out there then we have plenty of mid layers to choose from also!

Course news

Course Management - The 3rd Hole

Onto hole 3 which presents a tee shot into a reasonably wide fairway depending on how far you want to go.

If you go all the way to the corner then out of bounds definitely becomes an issue but makes the second shot far more inviting if using a PW or 9 iron as opposed to a 6 or 7 iron. The green and approach are guarded by some very big and deep bunkers so a flighted second shot is almost always required.

There is no good miss into this green other than slightly short and straight which isn’t the most common of misses!

The green is also tricky sitting left to right and narrow. All in a tough hole but with the prevailing wind helping quite often you will be coming in to the green with a short iron so if played with full commitment then a birdie is a possibility but you would be happy to leave the green with a par 4.

For me though the crucial shot is the tee shot pick the correct club to hit the wide part of the fairway and make the hole a little easier.

Good golf doesn't age

It has been another steady week on the range with a good mixture of coaching and custom fitting. It has been particularly interesting the wide mixture of age, ability and expectation levels amongst the people I have been teaching and fitting.

My Assistant Connor has been out with the Juniors for our now weekly coaching sessions on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons so I feel between us we are covering a lot of bases! I often hear that “I’m too old for a lesson” but was out earlier this week with a gent 79 years young!

Everyone has their own issues and I really enjoy working out which parts can be left alone and which parts need to be tweaked! If you are struggling with any part of your game contact the Pro Shop and we will endeavour to get you back enjoying your game.

The golden combo

What would you say if we could show you a way of achieving greater accuracy and longer distance from the tee? You would say yes, right? Well, here’s your answer…

Have you been custom fitted?

First things first, the easiest way to achieve the holy grail of long, straight drives is to find the middle of the clubface every time, which is easier said than done for most of us. Following that, it’s all about launching your drives high with a good spin rate.

Simple, right?

It doesn’t matter how fast or smoothly you swing, if the clubhead and shaft are a bad match for the way you play, your chances of sending a perfect drive into the air will be seriously hampered.
