Offering You The Best
It has now been a little over six months since I started my role as Head Professional at Arbroath. It would be fair to say I have enjoyed almost every minute so far and both Connor and I are really looking forward to the season ahead. This week I was at the Foremost Spring Workshop, where the agenda for the day was all about planning ahead, engaging with the membership and letting your customers know exactly what “We” offer.
Not just in terms of what we sell within the shop but also in terms of the services we provide. The benefits of Coaching, Custom Fitting and our Repair Service. I try to keep you updated each week on a mixture of these services but both Connor and I will endeavour to continue to try to improve not only the collection of goods within the shop but also the services which we provide.
We also look forward to putting on various events throughout the year. Ultimately our aim is for everyone who walks through the door at Arbroath Links Pro Shop to receive the highest level of customer service and also enjoy their time in and out of the Pro Shop and looking forward to their next visit whether they are a member or visitor to the area.
Here’s to a successful 2019 golf season for all!

Gapping
It used to be really easy to fill your bag with 13 or 14 clubs, almost everyone had driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, putter then a set of irons from 3-SW. Nowadays with the introduction of hybrids, extremely strong long irons and pitching wedges it can be a bit of a minefield figuring out where your bag should start and finish.
The key is having consistent gaps between loft throughout your bag. The most common areas where I see most confusion is after a 3 wood and after pitching wedge. If this is sounding familiar then pop into the Pro Shop to see if we can tidy up your bag and make sure you gaps are correct.
One of the easiest ways to do this is through our Wedge Fitting Analysis, where based on the loft of your pitching wedge and hitting a few shots with the Analyser we can determine the correct lofts and bounce angles required to gap your bag.

[* END *] Lesson Progression
This week I had Ross down for his second lesson and it was great to see his improvement from lesson one; Ross is new to the game and eager to get better. In the first lesson we worked on getting the body move correctly in particular the hips and shoulders.
After a couple weeks work Ross was back and definitely moving the correct parts of the body more often. I am a big believer in getting the body to do the work and not worrying too much on what the club is doing. For me as long as the body rotates and works together you have every chance of hitting consistent shots.
The two pictures show Ross at impact; in the right hand picture, lesson one, Ross hasn’t moved his lower half at all and is doing all the work with his top half. In the left hand picture, lesson two, Ross has moved off of his right heel and his hips are rotating through to the target. There is still plenty of work to be done but he is definitely on the right path.

Rory finds his range... A month out from The Masters and Rory McIlroy admitted to playing some of his ‘best golf ever’ after securing a one-shot victory at the unofficial fifth Major – The Players Championship. |
His game has been so close for a little while now and it has always been a case of 'when' and not 'if' for the Northern Irishman. So, after struggling with his driver all-day on Saturday (hitting just four of 13 fairways - see it happens to the best, too), McIlroy snuck in some extra practice that evening and it paid dividends.
Standing on the long par-4 18th tee with a one-shot lead on Sunday evening, Rory knew a par would be good enough to earn his first victory in a year. With water all the way down the left side, the wind blowing towards the hazard and a slight dogleg to contend with, McIlroy hit his 'Sunday best' and split the fairway down the middle on his way to carding an effortless par and a cheque for over $2 million. |

Quiz time Rory McIlroy became only the second ever British player to win The Players Championship. Who was the other?

Tiger, Tiger, Tiger A certain Tiger Woods failed to take advantage of the rules during his second round at TPC Sawgrass, as a quadruple-bogey seven at the iconic par-3 17th island green all but ended his hopes of a third Players title. After sinking his tee-shot short in the drink, Woods headed to the drop zone and repeated the feat once again. However, considering the left-back pin placement and the position in which Woods' first ball entered the water, it turned out he could have dropped on the walk-way to the green (essentially, the fringe) and been lining up a 30-foot putt for par rather than facing another tricky wedge shot over the drink. This is where knowing your rules can really make all the difference, so make sure you're clued up by taking a copy of the new Rules of Golf book from the club.
