Curing that dreaded slice This week I have been out coaching again, one of my customers, Gordon has been struggling with the ball going left to right, a common problem for many golfers. Stright away I was able to see Gordon had a big over swing and then came over the top resulting in him cutting across the ball and sending it left to right. The easy solution here would be to tell Gordon that all he needs to do is shorten his swing, but if it was that easy then he wouldn’t be making the mistake in the first place! I always look for the reason why the club is being able to get into a certain position, if the body moves correctly and stays in posture throughout the swing it is unlikely that a golfer can make a dramatic over swing. Having taken a couple of videos of Gordons swing I was able to show him his right elbow way out of position at the top of the backswing and also show him how he was picking the club up with his hands rather than using the arms and shoulders to take the club away and make a full shoulder turn. So Gordon has some homework for the week, but even after a few swings he was getting the hang of it and making some progress. |
