Course news

What a difference a sunny weekend makes!

It was great to see so many golfers out over the weekend and although the course was still very wet in places and we had a temporary green in play at the first the course was looking good and the work the green keeping team have been doing is paying off.

They reckon the course is around 3-4 weeks behind due to the weather but with temperatures set to rise this week and also a drier outlook we should see the course in really good order by the end of the month. TX10 fertiliser was applied to the greens last week to help prevent any disease from the wet conditions and this week the first green has been given a mini core to help with aeration.

Content Spotlight!

A change in distance

The changes to the Rules of Golf are fast approaching with 2019 now less than nine months away, so we thought we’d take a closer look at one common rule that’s getting a makeover.

Change of procedure when taking relief
Currently, you must drop your ball within two club-lengths from the nearest point of relief when taking a penalty drop.

Under the new rule (17.1c), from 2019 you’ll need to use the longest club in your bag (other than a putter) to measure one club-length or two club-lengths depending on the situation.

The other alteration comes when dropping the golf ball. At present, you must drop your ball from shoulder height when taking relief, but this will change to knee height from 2019.

How are you standing?

If you ever notice any changes to your trajectory or direction, it’s worth checking your ball position to see if any errors have crept in over time. Here’s our quick guide to getting it right.

Step 1

When using a wedge, an easy way to check your ball position is to start with your feet together and your ball in line with the middle of stance like in the image above.

Step 2

Next, take an equal step in each direction. Your ball position will remain in the middle and you’ll create a strong base with your feet around a shoulders’ width apart.

Step 3

Your ball position should change with each club. Keep it central with wedges and short irons, slightly further forward with mid-irons and opposite your heel with your driver.
