Course news

Course update

It has been another tough run of weather here at Glenrothes but thankfully we appear to be through the worst of it again. I don’t think any of us could believe the amount of snow falling last Wednesday but it is gone now and that should be the last of it for this year!!

Tuesday this week saw the Air2G2 Machine out on the greens, this machine helps take some of the moisture out of the greens which is badly needed due to the amount of rain that has fallen recently.

Competition news

April medal

Remarkably after such bad weather the course was open for play on full greens on Saturday just in time for the April Medal. Well Done to Daniel Black, Gerry Sweeney and Jim McLuckie for winning their respective sections.

The First Pro Shop Magic 2s were won by Billy Paul & Andrew Rae who both had 2s at the 3rd hole and won £23 each into the members account in the Pro Shop.

Fitting news

Callaway clubs

A big thank you to firstly the customers themselves, Jim Muir and Stan Anderson and secondly to Callaway Golf for producing their Custom Fitted Clubs so quickly. Heres hoping your not playing in front of either of those 2 over the next couple weeks or the ball might come flying past with the new Rogue drivers they have in their bags!

I have plenty fitting options in the shop and my own Launch Monitor but if you would like to book into the fitting centres at either St Andrews for Callaway or Kingsfiled for TaylorMade pop into the shop and we can sort you out.

Lynx Fitting Day

Friday the 27th April will see the Lynx team back at the course for a Fitting Day. The appointments are available from 2pm-6pm although the last 2 have been booked so there are only appointments available until 4.30 currently. This day was extremely popular last year so make sure you don’t miss out.

The Lynx line up is fantastic for 2018 with drivers available from £149 and Fairway woods or Hybrids clubs available from £79!!

Recently, you may have seen a few requests in our weekly emails asking you to create your golfing profile or confirm your email address for GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) purposes.

As you might be aware, GDPR is new legislation coming into effect at the end of May, so we are taking the opportunity now to update your details. Not only does this give us the chance to confirm that we have your correct information, but it also provides us with the ability to personalise your weekly emails to suit your golfing preferences. The Masters

Well to finish off this week I just wanted to mention the Masters, sadly I didn’t see much of the golf as I was away on a Stag Party weekend in Dusselldorf, which was excellent by the way, but I managed to see some of the highlights once I was home.

Not one to brag but Patrick Reed was one of my picks!! I must know what I’m talking about sometimes!! It certainly looks like golf will continue to be exciting for the next few years with so many potential major winners out there. Roll on the rest of the season and hopefully we will even get some double digit temperatures next week!!

No penalty

Golf can be a frustrating game at the best of times, but incurring a penalty stroke when you’ve accidentally done something wrong seems very unfair, especially when that one stroke could be the difference between getting a handicap cut or not.

Current Rules
Under the current Rules of Golf, if you accidentally nudge your ball while addressing it you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace it (18-2). The only exception relates to if it is accidentally moved in the process of marking it. In this case, it must be replaced and there is no penalty (20-1).

New Rules from 2019
The new proposed rule (13.1c) states there will no longer be a penalty for accidentally causing your ball to move on the green and you must replace it on its original spot.
